about

Recorded in Los Angeles, CA

I've written plenty of songs that are totally gay either by implication ("curtain's falling, I'm still out though / let me act in perfect shadow . . . kiss me on the cheek in shadows") or nonbinary by construction and totally gay in my head ("your voice reminds of my own / makes me nervous / stronger than I would have known").

But this one . . .

This tune is an out-and-out bisexual garage rock anthem. And it all started when I woke up in the middle of the night with a single lyric echoing in my head: "there's a girl that he came to see / he said he wouldn't kiss her but he would kiss me."

When I sing this song I think about what it's felt like having a crush on a guy and at the same time being jealous that he's so out and happy. The lyrics describe him: "he was so self-assured / pride like I couldn't afford." But I think I'm finally at a place in my life where I can afford to have that kind of pride. ❤️💜💙

lyrics

There's a party tonight
There's a party tonight
I'm not feeling alright
There's something off on my mind
Maybe my clothes are too tight
Maybe my voice is too high
But there's a boy by my side
Telling me that I'm fine
I'm all alone in my mind
But there's a party tonight

He said,
"Come with me I don't mind
I don't think I would lie
And I know what you like
I think I know what you like"
He danced like he hadn't before
Shared glances like he had more
But he was so self assured
Pride like I couldn't afford

There's a girl that he came to see
He said he wouldn't kiss her but he would kiss me

I could die
I would die
Lights of the party, from the street and into the night
